Renowned fashion icon Tom Ford’s production company announced on Wednesday that he has enlisted Adele to star in his upcoming film based on Anne Rice’s novel, “Cry to Heaven.” This project will mark the singing sensation’s debut in acting, joining a stellar cast that includes Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and other notable actors. Specific details about their roles have not been disclosed yet.
Adele, a Grammy-winning artist, released her album “30” in 2021 and opted for a residency in Las Vegas instead of a traditional tour. The residency concluded in 2024 after 100 shows. She now joins a lineage of singers venturing into acting, following the footsteps of Charli XCX, Lady Gaga, Harry Styles, and A$AP Rocky.
“Cry to Heaven,” originally published in 1982, is set in 18th-century Italy’s opera world, portraying the lives of characters from diverse backgrounds. This film will be Tom Ford’s third directorial venture, following his acclaimed works “A Single Man” in 2009 and “Nocturnal Animals” in 2016.
According to reports from Deadline, Ford has penned the screenplay for “Cry to Heaven,” currently in pre-production in London and Rome with a targeted release date in fall 2026. Ford, known for self-financing his projects, emphasized his commitment to controlling the underlying rights of his films in a previous statement to The Associated Press.
