Shortly after ringing in the new year with cheers, Albertans were taken by surprise when Lucky 7 Cattle Co. owner Stacey Simpson found herself counting up not to three, but to four. Simpson, a breeder of Red and Black Angus cattle in Sedgewick, Alberta, was expecting her five-year-old heifer Dukey to go into labor in the early hours of 2026. However, what she didn’t anticipate was Dukey giving birth to not just one or two, but three calves.
After delivering the first two calves, Simpson was urged by her father to check again. To her amazement, she discovered a third calf on the way. The triplets, named Carla, Darla, and Marla, were born healthy, defying the odds of survival for triplet calves.

These triplets are not the first at Lucky 7; a year earlier, Dukey’s mother gave birth to another set, Hewey, Dewey, and Louie, who are still part of the herd. According to Simpson, the birth of the first set was even more remarkable as they were delivered without the need for assistance.

Simpson’s sister Kylie, also a farmer at Lucky 7, mentioned that they only have a small herd of 35 cows. She expressed astonishment at the rare occurrence of having two sets of triplets.
While the future of Carla, Darla, and Marla at Lucky 7 Cattle Co. is uncertain, they may be used for breeding or put up for sale. Meanwhile, a video featuring the mother and her calves posted on the company’s Facebook page has gained significant attention, with nearly two million views and comments from viewers worldwide.
Stacey Simpson expressed her delight in sharing the unique experience with a wide audience and plans to continue updating followers on the triplets’ progress throughout the year.
