An American woman completed a 5,700-kilometer hike spanning the U.S. and Canada in five months and received unexpected assistance from a group of British Columbia snowmobilers during the final leg of her journey. Jessica Guo extensively documented her trek along the Continental Divide Trail in the western U.S. and the Great Divide Trail in the Canadian Rockies over a period of more than 150 days from April to September. Initially sharing her adventure with close contacts, Guo later expanded her audience through social media and a newsletter, amassing a significant following.

Guo claims to be the first woman to have simultaneously completed both trails and the fourth documented person to do so. Expressing her gratitude for the impact she has had on others, Guo mentioned the numerous individuals who were inspired by her journey to explore the outdoors. The conclusion of her remarkable expedition took place at Kakwa Provincial Park in British Columbia, where she planned to meet her parents after 152 days on the trail.

During her final trek towards Prince George, Guo encountered Greg Redmond and his friends, members of the Kakwa Park Snowmobile Club with a long history of outdoor recreation in the area. Although initially seeking a ride to complete her journey, Guo was offered dinner and shelter by the group when they decided not to travel to Prince George that evening to ensure her safety on the rugged and potentially dangerous road in the dark. The newfound companions quickly bonded, exchanging stories of their mountain adventures.

Redmond shared anecdotes about the wildlife encounters at their cabin, including grizzly bears attempting to climb its walls and raiding gas cans in the spring. Despite the men’s initial unawareness of Guo’s extensive hike, they developed a camaraderie during her stay, with Guo showcasing videos of her journey that initially surprised Redmond but ultimately deepened their connection. The following day, two of the men escorted Guo to a trailhead, where she embarked on the final 14-kilometer stretch to reunite with her parents.

Reflecting on her experience, Guo emphasized the shared passion for the outdoors that unites people like herself and Redmond, who engage with nature in diverse ways. The encounter with the snowmobilers turned into a memorable and heartwarming interaction, highlighting the mutual appreciation for nature and adventure that transcends individual pursuits.
