Prime Minister Mark Carney of Canada has initiated a collaboration with India and Australia on cutting-edge technologies during the G20 conference in South Africa. The trilateral pact aims to foster cooperation among the three democracies in enhancing supply chain diversity, promoting clean energy, and advancing the adoption of artificial intelligence.
This partnership signifies Canada’s efforts to mend ties with India following a period of tension triggered by allegations from the RCMP linking New Delhi to the murder and extortion of Canadian nationals. In a joint statement issued on Saturday, the countries introduced the Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation Partnership (ACITI).
The ACITI initiative will leverage the inherent strengths of the three nations with a focus on innovation in green energy and the establishment of resilient supply chains, including critical minerals. The partnership also intends to explore the advancement and widespread utilization of artificial intelligence to enhance the quality of life for their respective populations.
As per the statement, officials from the three countries have agreed to convene in the first quarter of 2026 to advance the partnership. Carney is presently in Johannesburg for the G20 summit, where a majority of leaders have endorsed a collective declaration despite the absence of U.S. representation. The declaration encompasses discussions on climate change, women’s rights, and the Middle East, topics that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump had previously contested throughout the year.
