Para track and field: Canadian Success at World Championships

Canada secured four additional medals, including two golds, in the last two days of the World Para Athletics Championships held in India. Anthony Bouchard claimed gold in the men’s 100m T52 race, while Nate Tucker clinched his third world title in the men’s 1,500m T38 event. Marissa Papaconstantinou and Austin Smeenk also contributed to Canada’s medal tally.

With a total of nine medals, including three golds, Canada ranked 22nd in the overall standings. Greg Stewart, a two-time Paralympic shot put champion, also stood out with his first world title win.

Weightlifting: Charron Shines at Worlds

Maude Charron, a Canadian athlete, secured silver in the women’s 63-kilogram category at the world championships in Norway. This marked her fourth major medal across three different weight classes, following previous successes in the Olympics and world championships.

Charron, hailing from Rimouski, Que., demonstrated exceptional performance, lifting a total of 236kg. She was outshined by North Korea’s Ri Suk in the competition.

Curling: Homan and Dunstone Triumph

Rachel Homan and Matt Dunstone, Canadian skips, emerged victorious at the PointsBet Invitational in Calgary. Homan secured the women’s title, maintaining an impressive winning streak, while Dunstone triumphed in the men’s category.

Other notable achievements include trampolinist Sophiane Méthot’s success at a World Cup event, figure skater Madeline Schizas’ bronze win in Kazakhstan, and tennis players Felix Auger-Aliassime and Gabriel Diallo’s progress at the Shanghai Masters.
