This victory marked Stewart’s first world title, despite being a seasoned two-time Paralympic gold medalist in the same discipline. Following his retirement announcement after winning at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Stewart made a comeback in 2022 due to his passion for the sport. Expressing his emotions post-victory, Stewart emphasized the importance of resilience and determination in achieving success at such high levels of competition.
In a remarkable achievement on the women’s side, Julia Hanes secured her first world medal by throwing an outstanding distance of 7.51 meters in the F33 shot put final, earning herself a well-deserved bronze medal. Hanes showcased composure and skill amidst challenging circumstances, highlighting her ability to perform under pressure.
The successful performances by Stewart, Hanes, and Katie Pegg, who won a bronze in the women’s F46 shot put event, have made the past few days highly rewarding for Canadian athletes in the shot put category at the championships.
