Rory Linkletter recently made history in the Houston Half Marathon, becoming the first Canadian to finish the race in under an hour. He crossed the finish line in 59 minutes and 49 seconds, breaking the Canadian record previously held by Cam Levins by 69 seconds. Linkletter expressed his excitement about breaking the 60-minute barrier, highlighting the significance of being the first Canadian to achieve this milestone.

Linkletter, a Calgary native, has a special connection with Houston, considering it a place where he excels in running fast. This was not the first time he set a national record in Houston, having accomplished a similar feat in the past. His performance in the recent race showcased his competitive spirit and determination to push his limits.

On the other hand, Levins, originally from Black Creek, B.C., finished the race in 1 hour and 58 seconds, placing 18th among male participants. Despite not breaking his own record, Levins acknowledged Linkletter’s impressive achievement and congratulated him graciously.

Linkletter’s success in the Houston Half Marathon marks his third victory over Levins in their competitive history. His consistent improvement and dedication to the sport have positioned him as a formidable contender in the running community. Looking ahead, Linkletter plans to participate in upcoming marathons and aims to represent Canada at the World Athletics Road Running Championships later this year.

Meanwhile, Erin Mawhinney of Hamilton also made a significant impact at the Houston Marathon, setting a new personal best time of 2 hours, 29 minutes, and 36 seconds. Coached by Reid Coolsaet, a two-time Canadian Olympic marathoner, Mawhinney’s performance highlighted her potential and dedication to her craft.

In a separate event, Moh Ahmed faced challenges due to a hamstring cramp, leading to his early exit from the men’s senior 10 km race at the World Athletics Cross-Country Championships. Despite the setback, Ahmed remains optimistic about his future performances and continues to strive for excellence in his athletic pursuits.

Overall, Canadian athletes showcased their talent and determination across various competitions, demonstrating their resilience and commitment to achieving their goals on the global stage.
