“Children’s Sunscreen Recall: Health Risks Detected”

A recall has been initiated for a children’s sunscreen due to the presence of a solvent that could potentially pose health hazards.

Health Canada has announced that SC Johnson & Son, Inc. is pulling back its Kids by Babyganics SPF 50 Mineral Sunscreen Totally Tropical in rollerball and continuous spray variants because of the detection of monoglyme, also known as 1,2-dimethoxyethane, exceeding the permitted limit in the products.

According to a press release from Health Canada, this solvent has the potential to enter the body through skin absorption or inhalation, potentially causing adverse effects on fetal development and the reproductive system with frequent use.

The impacted sunscreens bear expiry dates of November 2025 and April 2026.

Health Canada advises against using the recalled sunscreen and recommends seeking advice from a healthcare professional if any health issues arise after using the product.

The regulatory body assures that it is closely monitoring the recall process by the company and pledges to keep the public informed should any new health concerns surface.
