Corryn Brown Extends Winning Streak at PointsBet Invitational

Corryn Brown continued her winning streak at the PointsBet Invitational curling event by defeating Kate Cameron 10-6 in Calgary on Friday. Hailing from Kamloops, B.C., Brown’s team maintained a flawless record of 3-0, securing the top position in the women’s Pool B.

Despite a strong effort from Cameron’s rink from St. Adolphe, Man., who managed to score two points in the eighth end and steal one in the ninth, reducing Brown’s lead to 7-6, Brown capitalized on the final end with the hammer to secure the victory.

Following her loss to Brown, Cameron’s record dropped to 1-3 after being defeated by Selena Sturmay of Edmonton 6-4 in the late draw on Friday. Meanwhile, Kerri Einarson from Gimli, Man., claimed the second spot in Pool B with a 2-1 record after an 11-4 victory over Sturmay.

In the women’s Pool A category, Kaitlyn Lawes from Winnipeg climbed to second place with a 2-1 record after dominating Myla Plett from Edmonton with a score of 10-3.

Christina Black from Halifax achieved her first win by triumphing over Beth Peterson from Winnipeg with a score of 8-5, placing both teams at 1-2. Ottawa’s Rachel Homan leads Pool A with a perfect 3-0 record after defeating Myla Plett of Edmonton 12-4 on Friday.

In the men’s matches, Mike McEwen from Winnipeg emerged victorious over Rylan Kleiter from Saskatoon with a score of 7-2, maintaining the top position in men’s Pool B at 3-0, while Kleiter’s record dropped to 0-3.

John Epping’s team from Toronto secured a win against Cal MacIsaac from Truro, N.S., with a score of 8-5, elevating them to a 3-0 record and leading Pool A in the men’s category. Brad Jacobs from Calgary improved to 2-1 in Pool A after defeating Brad Gushue from St. John’s, Nfld., who now stands at 1-2.

Jordon McDonald from Winnipeg, Man., defeated Matt Dunstone 10-5 to tie for second place in Pool B with a 2-1 record. The final round-robin matches are set for Saturday.

The PointsBet Invitational features men’s and women’s competitions divided into two pools, with the top team from each pool advancing to the championship games on Sunday. The tournament boasts a prize purse of $300,000.
