Winter athletes participating in the Cortina d’Ampezzo Athletes Village during the Milan Cortina Games will experience modest accommodations in rented mobile homes. The temporary village, designed to house up to 1,400 athletes and team members, is situated in a serene area north of downtown Cortina. The rooms are basic yet functional, offering a unique opportunity to be close to the scenic Dolomites.
While the facilities may lack luxury, the location provides athletes with a peaceful environment to focus and train. The Italian government commissioner overseeing the infrastructure highlighted the temporary nature of the village, emphasizing its high-quality design and the positive impact on the surrounding environment.
Hosting athletes is a key responsibility for Olympic organizers, especially for the geographically diverse Milan Cortina Games. Notably, Norway has opted to accommodate its athletes in hotels rather than in the official Olympic villages. However, countries like the U.S., Germany, and Italy have confirmed their athletes will stay in the villages, which will be pivotal for both the Olympics and Paralympics events.
The mobile homes in the village offer essential amenities, including individual rooms with bathrooms and showers. Athletes may experience varying weather conditions, from chilly mornings to picturesque mountain views. Despite the challenging conditions, personalized heating controls in each room ensure comfort for residents.
The cost-effective Village, costing 38 million euros, will serve as a temporary residence during the games and be repurposed for camping sites post-event. The sustainability aspect of the project is evident in the use of natural gas for heating and water supply, as well as efforts to preserve the natural surroundings by replanting trees.
