“Delays at Montreal Airport: Technical Issues Impact Flights”

UPDATE: The airport has resolved the issue. Read the most recent article here.

Passengers are facing significant delays at Montreal’s Trudeau International Airport today due to ongoing technical problems.

The delays primarily impact check-in processes for Air Canada and Sunwing flights, both domestic and international.

Challenges are also present at security checkpoints and in the baggage tagging system.

“Currently, we cannot provide a specific time for network restoration throughout the day,” stated Anne-Sophie Hamel, spokesperson for Aéroports de Montréal (ADM), during a press briefing around 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

Even after the systems are back online, delays are expected due to the disruptions that started earlier in the day.

Hamel explained that the delays stem from a network update initially planned for the previous day that encountered unexpected issues.

The impact is particularly felt by passengers heading towards destinations in warmer climates.

Travel Tips for Today

All travelers are urged to complete online check-in for their flights, plan for extra time, and arrive at the airport well in advance.

The airport advises passengers to verify flight statuses directly with the airlines since the website’s arrival and departure times may not be accurate.

“YUL Montréal-Trudeau is operational,” reassured Eric Forest, spokesperson for AdM, in a statement provided to CBC News earlier in the day.

“We have activated a contingency plan, and our teams are diligently working to resolve the situation promptly.”

Kenny Sirois arrived at the airport early on Tuesday with his family for a Cancun-bound flight, which faced a delay of over 12 hours. He remains hopeful for the rescheduled 9 p.m. departure.

“We are quite disappointed. This trip is special for my kids,” he expressed.

Eric Ness, also at the airport with his children, anticipates a delayed 9 p.m. departure for their flight.

“Despite the delay, I am looking forward to enjoying the beach and good weather soon,” he remarked optimistically.
