Ernie Clement of the Toronto Blue Jays made history in Game 7 of the World Series by achieving three hits, setting a new MLB record with 30 hits in a single postseason. This milestone surpasses the previous record of 29 hits held by Randy Arozarena of the Tampa Bay Rays during the 2020 playoffs.

The Tampa Bay team played 20 games across four playoff rounds in 2020, following a shortened regular season due to the pandemic. In comparison, Toronto played 18 games in three playoff rounds this year, with both teams ultimately losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series.

During Game 7, Clement secured a single in the second inning, another single with a run scored in the sixth, and a record-breaking leadoff double in the eighth inning, resulting in Dodgers reliever Emmet Sheehan being pulled from the game.

Clement’s hitting streak extended to 13 games, setting a new Blue Jays postseason record. He finished his first postseason with an impressive batting average of .411, including one home run and nine RBIs. Despite going 3-for-5 in Game 7, the Blue Jays fell short, losing 5-4 in 11 innings.

In a tense moment in the ninth inning, Clement almost clinched the title for Toronto with a deep hit to left-center, but it was caught on the warning track with the bases loaded, leading to extra innings with the score tied at 4-4.

Reflecting on the game, Clement expressed his emotional response, stating, “I’ve been crying for like probably for an hour. I thought I was done with the tears.”

Drafted by Cleveland in 2017, Clement faced challenges in his career, including being designated for assignment in September 2022. Despite setbacks, he continued his journey, joining the Blue Jays and achieving career highs in the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
