A former police officer in Regina has admitted to misusing police databases to engage in personal relationships with women. Robert Eric Semenchuck made the confession in Regina Provincial Court recently. Semenchuck, who served in the Regina Police Service for 22 years, kept silent during the court appearance and ignored questions from reporters as he exited.
The allegations against Semenchuck were initially reported to the police service in early 2023, but it was not until March of the current year that then-Police Chief Farooq Sheikh announced the charges against him. Police authorities have confirmed that Semenchuck resigned from the service on April 21, 2025.
According to Sheikh, the delay in laying charges was beyond the control of the police. It remains unclear how many individuals Semenchuk may have reached out to, but some of the affected women were present in court when he pleaded guilty.
The investigation into Semenchuck by the Regina Police Service concluded earlier this year, although no specific date was provided. A spokesperson for the service stated that they would always investigate any new information presented to them, no matter when the initial investigation was completed.
Sentencing for Semenchuck is set for January 23, 2026, with a pre-sentencing report to be submitted for review earlier that month. Following the revelation of Semenchuk’s actions, the Regina Police Service has implemented new measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring. These include enhanced auditing procedures, additional training to reinforce the unacceptability of such behavior, and a reminder to all personnel accessing the database that it should only be used for investigative purposes.
