A fatal shooting occurred on a GO Transit bus near Yorkdale Shopping Mall on Sunday evening, resulting in the death of a man, as confirmed by authorities. The incident took place around 7 p.m. near the GO terminal close to Yorkdale Road and William R. Allen Road ramp in North York, according to a social media post by the Toronto Police Service (TPS).
Following the shooting, all passengers and GO staff were safely evacuated from the bus, as reported by Metrolinx media relations. Police and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel are present at the scene, according to Metrolinx.
In response to the situation, Yorkdale GO station is currently not being served by buses. Passengers are advised to board at the York Mills terminal instead, as stated by Metrolinx. Detective Sergeant Jason Davis of the Homicide and Missing Persons Unit mentioned during a briefing that a suspect has been apprehended, and a firearm has been seized.
The investigation has been taken over by the TPS homicide unit. Metrolinx issued a statement on Monday afternoon, advising passengers feeling unsafe on trains or buses to utilize the yellow strip for assistance or text “HELP” to 77777 for immediate help. Additionally, Metrolinx mentioned that special constables and customer protection officers are available 24/7 on trains, stations, and platforms to provide further support.
