Less than six weeks remain until the 2026 Montana’s Brier in St. John’s, with preparations escalating, including the final release of a large batch of tickets on Tuesday at 12 p.m. NT. Eugene Trickett, the tournament committee’s vice-chair, anticipates approximately 350 to 450 tickets per draw to go on sale, driven by high demand, particularly to witness local favorite Brad Gushue compete before his retirement. Trickett highlighted the uniqueness of Gushue retiring at home, creating unprecedented excitement for the upcoming Brier.
Gushue’s previous victory at the 2017 national tournament in St. John’s garnered significant fanfare, and Trickett expects an even more fervent atmosphere this year, especially as Gushue progresses in the competition. Tickets can be purchased through Curling Canada’s website, with potential additional releases closer to the event as unused tickets become available.
Despite the scarcity of tickets, opportunities to participate in the event still exist through volunteering, with around 98% of the required 400 volunteers already recruited. Remaining volunteer positions will be assigned to the Patch, an entertainment hub located at the St. John’s Convention Centre, featuring bars, food vendors, and performances by renowned artists like the Irish Descendants and Billy and the Bruisers. Trickett foresees a bustling Patch, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights, emphasizing its significant role in the Brier experience. Prospective volunteers can sign up on the Curling Canada website.
