Vince Horsman, a former left-handed pitcher with experience in the major leagues, sees similarities between the current Toronto Blue Jays’ playing style and a more traditional approach to baseball. Horsman, who played for the Blue Jays in 1991, noted that while many teams now heavily rely on analytics and power hitting, the Blue Jays exhibit a more balanced strategy, utilizing the entire field in their offensive game plan.
Prior to Game 2 of the World Series matchup between the Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Dodgers, Horsman shared his insights on the team’s performance, praising their versatility in hitting. The Dodgers managed to tie the series 1-1 with a 5-1 victory in Game 2.

Having dedicated over four decades to professional baseball, transitioning from player to coach, Horsman currently serves as a pitching coach with the 7-Eleven Unilions in Tainan City, Taiwan. With extensive coaching experience, including a significant tenure with the Blue Jays’ farm teams, Horsman expressed his support for the current coaching staff and their efforts in leading the team to success.
Reflecting on his journey to professional baseball, Horsman recalled being scouted by the Blue Jays during a national tournament in Moncton, N.B., which eventually led to him signing a contract with the team. Moving through the minor leagues and making a direct leap to the major leagues in 1991, Horsman emphasized the surreal experience of playing against renowned opponents.

Throughout his career, Horsman has embraced various coaching opportunities worldwide, appreciating the diverse cultures and histories of the places he has lived. As the only Nova Scotian to have played for the Blue Jays and one of a select few from the region to reach the majors, Horsman values his unique path in professional baseball.
Recalling his time playing for the Blue Jays and the Oakland Athletics, Horsman highlighted the intense playoff experiences and the excitement of competing at the highest level of the sport. Following his playing career, Horsman transitioned seamlessly into coaching, a role that has allowed him to impact players globally.

Grateful for his fulfilling career in baseball, Horsman acknowledged the role of providence in shaping his journey from a Nova Scotian teenager to a seasoned professional in the baseball world. Had he not pursued baseball, Horsman revealed his alternate career path would have led him to teaching history, a field he remains passionate about exploring.
