A former undercover police informant is taking legal action against the federal government and the RCMP, alleging mistreatment during his time as an underage operative in the Maritimes. Paul Derry claims he was subjected to abuse while working undercover starting at the age of 15. By 17, he asserts he had infiltrated a child sex ring based in a Moncton motel.

More than four decades later, Derry has initiated a civil lawsuit against the authorities for the hardships he endured during his service. Expressing his concerns, Derry questions the decision to utilize a minor in such a risky operation, emphasizing the gravity of the situation in his legal filings.

Amid the ongoing legal proceedings, the RCMP declined to comment on the matter due to its pending court status. Despite seeking damages through the lawsuit, Derry acknowledges the arduous nature of legal battles and the slim chances of significant monetary compensation. He emphasizes that his pursuit is driven by a desire to prevent similar injustices from befalling others.

Derry’s undercover work, which led to the convictions of numerous individuals, including Hells Angels hitmen, exposed him to death threats and necessitated years in witness protection. Despite the risks he faced, Derry was taken aback when the government proposed relocating the lawsuit to New Brunswick provincial court, a move he finds concerning given his past experiences in the area.

While acknowledging the toll the legal battle has taken on him and his family, Derry remains resolute in seeing the case through to its conclusion. Reflecting on the challenges, he contemplates the broader impact of his actions and expresses hopes for a meaningful resolution that extends beyond his lifetime.

Please note that the allegations made by Derry have not yet been subject to court scrutiny.
