The Juno Awards’ arrival in Hamilton was a result of a four-year effort, marked by some intense moments. Lisa Abbott, the city’s tourism and culture director, expressed excitement over showcasing the vibrancy of Hamilton to Juno attendees. Hamilton last hosted the Juno Awards in 2015, and the upcoming 55th annual event will be held at the newly renovated TD Coliseum on March 29, with comedian Mae Martin as the host.

The decision to bring the Junos to Hamilton began in 2022 during discussions about hosting the Canadian Country Music Association awards, according to Ryan McHugh, the city’s tourism and events director. The city considered various venues and hotels, working closely with the Around the Bay road race to avoid scheduling conflicts.

A key concern during the planning process was the readiness of TD Coliseum, undergoing a $300-million renovation managed by Oakview Group. The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences announced Hamilton as the 2026 host city in March 2025, coinciding with a media tour of the venue.

In preparation for the Juno Awards, a host committee and subcommittees were formed, involving consultations with local music industry stakeholders to maximize the event’s benefits. Hamilton is set to host numerous concerts during the Juno week, with support from different groups and businesses to ensure a diverse and engaging program.

The Junos bid was backed by financial contributions from various entities, including the city of Hamilton, Hamilton Tourism Development Corporation, a local hotel group, and the Ontario government. The economic impact of the Juno Awards is estimated to bring around $12 million to Hamilton, with hopes for an even greater boost.

Tim Potocic, co-chair of the Junos host committee and owner of Sonic Unyon record label, has been instrumental in organizing multiple Juno concerts and industry parties to showcase Hamilton’s music talent. He emphasized the city’s exceptional musical contributions and encouraged attendance at the upcoming events, highlighting the unique experiences awaiting visitors during the Juno Awards week.
