Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner emerged victorious at the China Open, defeating American youngster Learner Tien 6-2, 6-2 in the final match on Wednesday. This win marked Sinner’s third title of the season and his 21st career title, showcasing a strong comeback following his disappointment at the U.S. Open. Sinner expressed his satisfaction with the win in Beijing, highlighting his determination to continue improving and aiming for further success in the ongoing season.

Sinner’s next challenge awaits at the Shanghai Masters, where he is expected to be a top contender after Carlos Alcaraz withdrew due to an ankle injury suffered during the Japan Open. In a remarkable performance, Sinner secured his place in the final by defeating Alex de Minaur in the semifinals, extending his winning streak to 11 consecutive matches. Tien, ranked 52nd in the world, reached his first tour final after Daniil Medvedev retired due to injury during their match.

In another event at the WTA 1000 tournament, Emma Navarro caused an upset by defeating top-seeded Iga Swiatek 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 in the fourth round. Navarro, a 24-year-old American, claimed her fourth career victory against a top-five opponent, while Swiatek struggled with 70 unforced errors. The tournament also saw strong performances from American players Coco Gauff and Amanda Anisimova, with three Americans advancing to the quarterfinals for the first time since the tournament’s inception in 2004.

Looking ahead, the competition continues with Jessica Pegula facing Marta Kostyuk, and second-seeded Gauff set to play against Eva Lys in upcoming matches.
