Jared Leto’s performance in “Tron: Ares” has left many feeling sympathetic towards him. The movie, which is part of a sci-fi franchise that seems both underdeveloped and excessively bloated, fails to showcase Leto’s acting prowess. Portraying a malfunctioning computer program striving to understand empathy, Leto’s character yearns to be taken seriously as an actor. However, his film choices, including “Suicide Squad” and “Morbius,” do little to elevate his reputation.

Compared to the disastrous “Morbius,” “Tron: Ares” may face a similar fate, with early reviews labeling it as one of the worst big-budget films ever produced. Despite this criticism, the movie fails to evoke strong emotions, settling instead for forgettable mediocrity. The plot picks up after its predecessor, “Tron: Legacy,” with new characters and a narrative centered around AI research and innovation.

The story follows Eve Kim, CEO of Encom corporation, and her rival Julian Dillinger, as they explore the potential of cyberspace for human evolution. Their discoveries lead to the creation of destructive entities, including Ares, a weaponized program. The quest for a “Permanence Code” becomes crucial, linking back to Kevin Flynn from the original film. Amidst a convoluted kidnapping subplot and moral dilemmas, the movie struggles to deliver a cohesive narrative.

Despite its shortcomings, “Tron: Ares” offers visually appealing cinematography and a strong Nine Inch Nails soundtrack. The cast delivers competent performances, with Leto’s presence adding a unique yet unmemorable touch to the film. However, the movie’s failure to delve into meaningful themes like AI uprisings and tech company influence leaves viewers wanting more substance.

Overall, “Tron: Ares” manages to entertain with its action sequences but falls short in delivering a compelling storyline. While it may not be the worst film ever made, its lack of depth and reluctance to engage with important themes make it a forgettable addition to the sci-fi genre.
