“Jessia and Dominique Fils-Aimé Win SOCAN’s Her Music Awards”

The Society of Composers, Authors, and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN) hosted the sixth annual Her Music Awards in Toronto on February 23. During the event, pop artist Jessia and singer-songwriter Dominique Fils-Aimé were each presented with a $10,000 cash prize. These awards recognize and back women and gender-diverse Canadian music creators and industry experts who are shaping the future of the music scene. Past honorees include folk artist Kaïa Kater and pop singer Anjulie.

Upon receiving the Her Music Award, Jessia expressed her gratitude, emphasizing the significance of the recognition as an independent artist. She hopes her journey inspires other independent female musicians to persevere and advocate for themselves in the face of industry challenges. Known for her popular track “I’m Not Pretty,” which has garnered over 300 million streams globally, Jessia won the Juno Award for breakthrough artist in 2022. She is preparing to release a new EP in March.

On the other hand, Fils-Aimé, an acclaimed Juno and Félix Award-winning vocalist, has performed at various jazz festivals worldwide. Her recent album, “My World Is the Sun,” was released on February 20, coinciding with her ongoing tour. Fils-Aimé expressed her appreciation for the support and encouragement provided through the Her Music Award, highlighting its role in amplifying artistic expression.

Both artists acknowledged the significance of the award in celebrating their dedication and purpose in music creation. Fils-Aimé commended Jessia and fellow creators for contributing to the artistic landscape, emphasizing the importance of art in fostering humanity through diverse expressions.

The awards ceremony witnessed performances from the talented musicians, showcasing their artistry and passion for music. Jessia and Fils-Aimé’s achievements reflect their commitment to their craft and the impact of their music on audiences worldwide.
