Canadian relief pitcher Jordan Romano has agreed to a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Angels. The native of Markham, Ontario, had previously played for the Toronto Blue Jays for six seasons before moving on to the Philadelphia Phillies in 2025.
The Los Angeles Angels officially announced the signing through a press release on Tuesday, revealing that the deal is valued at $2 million US. The team has been facing challenges lately, enduring 10 consecutive losing seasons, with a disappointing 72-90 record in 2025, marking their last season above .500 back in 2015.
Romano, aged 32, had a successful career as a two-time all-star closer with the Blue Jays but faced difficulties in his recent season with the Phillies, posting a 2-4 record with an 8.23 ERA, eight saves, 47 strikeouts, and 10 home runs allowed in 42 2/3 innings. Across seven seasons in the Major Leagues with the Blue Jays and Phillies, Romano has accumulated a record of 22-21, a 3.73 ERA, and 113 saves in 280 games.
In 2022, Romano was honored with the Tip O’Neill Award by the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum for his outstanding performance, recording 73 strikeouts, 36 saves, and pitching 64 innings.
