Los Angeles has officially reached the milestone of 1,000 days until its inaugural Paralympic Games, announcing a preliminary competition timetable for the 2028 event. The LA28 organizing committee revealed plans for a record-breaking event, featuring 23 sports, 560 medal events spread over 294 sessions. These arrangements were meticulously crafted in collaboration with international federations and Olympic Broadcasting Services to ensure a balance between athlete well-being and global broadcast coverage.
Ileana Rodriguez, LA28’s Vice President of Paralympic Strategy and Relations, emphasized the significance of Los Angeles hosting its first Paralympic Games. Rodriguez highlighted the committee’s focus on tailoring the competition schedule to meet the needs of athletes while also engaging the global audience for an unforgettable experience.
Mayor Karen Bass expressed pride in the city’s commitment to hosting its inaugural Paralympic Games, noting a historic participation of female athletes on the global stage. The 2028 Games are scheduled to commence on August 15 at SoFi Stadium, culminating on August 27 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
The first day of competition will witness the crowning of Paralympic champions in various disciplines including Para athletics, wheelchair fencing, shooting Para sport, Para equestrian, and Para track cycling. Additionally, Para climbing will make its debut over four days starting from Day 9, while wheelchair rugby and sitting volleyball competitions will incorporate extended formats with play-in rounds.
Detailed event schedules, encompassing each competition, are anticipated to be released in 2026 as the countdown to the groundbreaking event continues.
