A 31-year-old man is facing charges of aggravated assault following an incident where a woman of the same age was reportedly pushed from a third-floor balcony on Thursday morning. The man made a court appearance on Friday via telephone.
According to Const. Jean-Pierre Brabant of the Montreal police, the authorities responded to a call at an apartment building on Ste-Catherine Street near Pie-IX Boulevard in the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough around 8:15 a.m. ET on Thursday. The police stated that there was a confrontation before the woman was pushed off the balcony.
The woman was discovered unconscious on the ground and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition with severe injuries considered life-threatening.
The man was apprehended at the location. Initially, law enforcement mentioned that the man would be charged with attempted murder. However, it was later clarified that he is expected to face charges of aggravated assault. The police are currently conducting further investigations into the matter.
