Man dies after being shot in Halifax neighbourhood

A man is dead after a shooting Thursday morning in a Halifax neighbourhood, according to police, who say the case is being investigated as a homicide.

Halifax Regional Police said in a news release that officers went to the scene on McFatridge Road, located in the community of Fairview, around 6:20 a.m.

Officers found the unconscious man, who had a gunshot wound, on the sidewalk, according to the news release. He was taken to hospital but pronounced dead.

On Friday, police identified the victim as 38-year-old Uriah Lemar Black.

Police say they do not believe it was a random incident.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have video from the area throughout that night to contact them.

Police told CBC News that the incident was connected to a lockdown procedure at the Halifax Infirmary emergency department Thursday morning. Nova Scotia Health said the lockdown was lifted at 8:15 a.m.
