A man is being sought across Canada for his involvement in two shootings near Edmonton and an extortion operation targeting the South Asian community. Authorities in Edmonton revealed details of the case during a recent press briefing.
The individual in question was initially apprehended in Red Deer on November 17, 2025, in connection to reports of gunfire incidents at a residence in Parkland County on October 31 and November 6. The property is situated in the Spring Meadow Estates area, approximately 25 kilometers west of Edmonton. Following the seizure of a firearm during the investigation, the suspect was released but later became the subject of a nationwide arrest warrant.
According to the RCMP, the suspect, a foreign national, is also wanted by the Canada Border Services Agency on immigration-related grounds. The firearm confiscated during the initial probe was linked to seven separate shootings nationwide. Investigators believe that the occupants of the targeted Parkland County residence were coerced and extorted for a substantial sum of money.
Cpl. Mitch Rondeau of the Parkland RCMP expressed concerns over the rise in extortion crimes in Canada, particularly those targeting the South Asian community. He emphasized the severity of extortion as a criminal offense and underscored the need for collaboration among law enforcement agencies to combat this trend.
Further developments in the case led to the arrest of two other foreign nationals in connection to separate shooting incidents. While not directly involved in the Parkland County shootings, these individuals are believed to be associated with the primary suspect. The arrests were made in Edmonton with the collaboration of local authorities.
Amid the investigation, Parkland County Mayor Rod Shaigec acknowledged some challenges in communication between the RCMP and residents. He emphasized the importance of operational discretion in complex cases to ensure thorough investigations and successful prosecutions. Rondeau echoed the sentiment, acknowledging the room for improved communication and urging extortion victims to report incidents to local authorities.
The RCMP affirmed their commitment to ongoing inquiries into the Parkland County shootings. Insp. Kevin McGillivray of the Parkland RCMP highlighted the significance of inter-agency cooperation in extortion investigations, citing successful collaborations with law enforcement entities in Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario. McGillivray stressed the value of open dialogue and partnerships in advancing investigations across the country.
