AFC Toronto’s Marko Milanovic has received the Coach of the Year title in the Northern Super League. Milanovic guided Toronto to the top spot in the league’s first season, securing a 16-6-3 record. Toronto finished with 51 points, comfortably surpassing the Ottawa Rapid and Vancouver Rise, who both ended the season with 39 points.
The award was determined through a vote among the six NSL coaches, with a rule that prohibited them from voting for themselves. This voting procedure resembled that of the year-end awards chosen by players who vote for their fellow players.
Toronto excelled in goal-scoring in the six-team league, leading with 42 goals. Additionally, they ranked second in goals conceded, narrowly behind Montreal.
Toronto’s playoff journey begins with an away game against Montreal on Saturday for the first leg of the semifinals, while Vancouver will host Ottawa on Tuesday.
Before his tenure at Toronto, Milanovic spent over ten years coaching North Toronto Soccer and leading the team in League1 Ontario. He also served as an assistant coach at Toronto Metropolitan University.
