Secrets, Soran

WATCH | Secrets visualizer:

Soran, the Montreal pop innovator, returns with his third album, Daystar, a record that revolves around the theme of finding love in unexpected places. The album features a blend of poignant and exploratory tracks spanning synth pop, chilled disco, acoustic guitar melodies, and more. The fourth track of the album, Secrets, embodies the anthemic essence of ’80s power pop with its bold drums, rhythmic guitar, reverberating vocals, and heartfelt emotions. Despite lyrical hesitance, there is a musical optimism pushing Soran towards taking a leap of faith. The song encapsulates the desire to open up but acknowledges the need to trust someone with all vulnerabilities. The collaborative efforts of Soran, along with Samant, Koko Love, and Zach Zoya, has been a source of excitement, showcasing the creativity brewing in the Montreal music scene. — Kelsey Adams

Irresistible, Ghostform

WATCH | Irresistible official video:

The debut EP, Songs to Cry To, from Ghostform, provides a fitting emotional outlet as this winter season draws to a close. The band, based in Saskatchewan and Toronto, consisting of Marvin Chan (Merv xx Gotti, Samurai Champs), Chris Dimas (Surf Dads), Gage McGuire (Surf Dads, Blue Youth), and Jon Wolfond (Blue Youth), merged their love for emo and post-hardcore during the early days of the pandemic. Their latest single, Irresistible, strikes a balance between longing and release, echoing the EP’s emotional depth. The song captures the essence of finding someone irresistibly lovable and aims to evoke the intense and immediate emotions reminiscent of the 2000s MySpace era. Starting as a gentle expression of affection, the track evolves into a passionate outpouring of emotions with crashing guitars and drums. Whether seeking a channel to express love or release pent-up emotions, Irresistible and Songs to Cry To deliver the perfect outlet. — Holly Gordon
