The Sault Ste. Marie Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) has broken his silence over a week following his removal from Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservative government due to criminal charges. Chris Scott, aged 35, released a statement addressing the allegations of assault and assault with a weapon on September 19. He mentioned retaining legal counsel and expressed trust in the justice system, refraining from further comments on the case during court proceedings. Scott emphasized the importance of respecting his family’s privacy during this process.

Transitioning to an Independent status in parliament, Scott announced a temporary withdrawal from certain responsibilities while ensuring his office remains operational for constituents. Despite calls for his resignation from various groups and individuals, including Mayor Matthew Shoemaker, Scott acknowledged community support in his statement, thanking constituents and leaders for their backing.

Having previously served in Ford’s office, Scott won the northern Ontario riding in the February election, narrowly defeating the New Democrat candidate. Scheduled for a court appearance in Sault Ste. Marie on October 22, Scott was removed from the caucus without a specified reason, with Premier Ford referring inquiries to law enforcement to avoid interference in the ongoing investigation. The Sault Ste. Marie courthouse confirmed the charges laid against Scott.
