An individual from Ontario, part of a group targeted in connection with Canadian fugitive Ryan Wedding, is seeking the court’s protection for the privacy of those who may supervise him if he is granted bail. Rolan Sokolovski, represented by his lawyers, has requested that any details that could reveal the identities of his potential sureties be kept confidential.

Sokolovski, who holds dual Lithuanian-Canadian citizenship, is among several Canadians facing extradition to the U.S. as part of an FBI probe into Wedding, an ex-Olympic snowboarder accused of leading an international drug trafficking operation. Allegations from U.S. authorities claim that Sokolovski assisted in laundering drug proceeds for the criminal group and bought luxury items for Wedding.

During a court session on Friday, Scott Fenton, Sokolovski’s legal counsel, argued that disclosing the identities of the proposed sureties could put them at significant risk. However, prosecutors contended that there is no evidence of threats towards the sureties and that withholding their identities might hinder the public’s understanding of the court’s decision on Sokolovki’s bail.

Ontario Superior Court Justice Peter Bawden is anticipated to make a ruling on this matter on Monday as Sokolovski’s bail hearing commences. According to his U.S. indictment, Sokolovski, aged 37, is not only a professional poker player but also a jeweler and procurer. He is accused of managing the finances of the organization and funneling drug money through his jewelry business.

Legal documents suggest that Sokolovski crafted a “bejewelled necklace” as payment to an alleged hitman involved in assisting Wedding in the murder of a federal witness. Wedding, who is believed to be evading authorities in Mexico, is a top target on the FBI’s most-wanted list.

In a related development, a Toronto-area attorney, Deepak Paradkar, who is linked to the criminal network, was recently granted bail under strict conditions, including confinement to his residence at all times. Paradkar’s wife and another family member are serving as his sureties. He is accused of advising Wedding on criminal activities, introducing him to drug traffickers, and coordinating intelligence efforts post-law enforcement drug seizures.

Moreover, in Miami, the FBI seized an exceedingly rare Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR Roadster valued at $13 million as part of the investigation into Wedding’s network. The vehicle, purchased by Sokolovski, was part of the ongoing scrutiny into the illicit operations connected to the fugitive.
