Ontario Premier Doug Ford recounted a recent incident where he confronted a shoplifter at a Home Depot store. Speaking at the Empire Club in Toronto, Ford emphasized the need for stronger bail measures due to the increasing audacity of criminals.
During the summer, Ford recalled a situation where he bypassed his security detail to purchase plants for his cottage in preparation for a visit from Prime Minister Mark Carney. At Home Depot, Ford noticed a man exiting the store with two backpacks, being followed by security personnel suspecting him of theft. Surprisingly, the guards refrained from taking action as per their instructions.
Taking matters into his own hands, Ford confronted the man and demanded to inspect his bags. When the man hesitated, Ford threatened physical confrontation, leading the individual to reveal a stolen saw blade. Ford warned the shoplifter of severe consequences if he ever encountered him again.
Ford shared this incident during a recent discussion, emphasizing the necessity of taking decisive actions in such situations.
