Prime Minister Mark Carney is embarking on a nine-day journey to Malaysia, Singapore, and South Korea at the end of the month to participate in two international summits. In Kuala Lumpur, Carney will be present at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit, where discussions on trade with Malaysia’s prime minister are on the agenda.
Following this summit, Carney is slated to meet with Singapore’s prime minister and regional business figures to deliberate on eliminating trade barriers and enhancing global capital attraction. The trip will culminate in South Korea, where Carney will partake in a gathering of Asia-Pacific economic leaders in Gyeongju.
During his visit to South Korea, Carney plans to tour the shipyard managed by Hanwha Ocean, one of the two contenders for a contract to construct new Canadian submarines. The Asian tour is scheduled from October 24 to November 1.
