Longueuil authorities have unveiled surveillance footage to identify a person connected to the case of a newborn abandoned on a doorstep over the weekend. The Service de police de l’agglomération de Longueuil (SPAL) shared a video showing an individual carrying something while walking down a sidewalk.
“The individual appears to be holding the baby in their arms in the video,” stated Jacqueline Pierre, SPAL’s spokesperson. This person could possess vital information to aid in locating the baby’s parents.
The incident occurred on Sunday around 11 p.m. ET when someone rang a home’s doorbell on Bourgeoys Street and quickly left. The newborn, wrapped in a blanket with the umbilical cord still attached, was discovered by the occupants who promptly alerted emergency services.
The baby received medical attention from police and paramedics, was transported to a hospital, and is reported to be in good condition. Longueuil police announced on Monday their search for the individual responsible for abandoning the infant.
Authorities intend to survey the neighborhood for potential security camera footage that might assist in identifying the baby’s parents. Anyone recognizing the individual in the video is urged to contact the police.
During a press conference, Jacqueline Pierre addressed the baby’s parents, expressing understanding for the challenging situation they are going through and emphasizing their well-being as a top priority. Mélanie Mercille, another SPAL spokesperson, disclosed that the baby was born prematurely at 34 weeks.
Public information led investigators to conduct searches in Marguerite Bourgeoys Park near the location where the baby was discovered, resulting in the park being temporarily closed to the public.
