The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) is gearing up for its third season after a five-month off-season characterized by roster shakeups and the addition of two new teams. The upcoming season will consist of 30 regular-season games for each team, interrupted in February for the Milano-Cortina Olympics. The top four teams will advance to the Walter Cup playoffs.

The league’s expansion efforts have focused on the west coast, with the Vancouver Goldeneyes set to face off against the Seattle Torrent in their inaugural game on Friday. Looking ahead, the PWHL is eyeing further expansion, with the possibility of adding two to four more teams next season in pursuit of a significant U.S. broadcast deal.

The season kicks off with exciting matchups, including a playoff rematch between the Minnesota Frost and the Toronto Sceptres on Friday, followed by games featuring the Ottawa Charge, New York Sirens, Montreal Victoire, and Boston Fleet over the weekend. Viewers can catch 17 games on CBC and CBC Gem throughout the season.

Key storylines to follow in the league’s third season include how the two expansion teams will integrate their talent, the anticipation surrounding the upcoming Olympics, roster changes across teams, and rule modifications aimed at enhancing gameplay. The PWHL is also exploring potential new markets for future expansion, with a focus on geographic and infrastructure considerations.

As the PWHL looks ahead to a dynamic and competitive season, fans can expect an exciting blend of skill, strategy, and passion on the ice.
