Arnaud Gaudet, a snowboarder hailing from Montcalm, Quebec, clinched a silver medal at a World Cup snowboard parallel giant slalom competition held in Bansko, Bulgaria. In the final showdown, Austria’s Benjamin Karl outpaced Gaudet by 0.68 seconds to secure the gold medal, while Switzerland’s Gian Casanova triumphed in the small final, securing the bronze medal.
Throughout the competition, the 25-year-old Gaudet displayed exceptional skills, defeating opponents such as Tim Mastnak from Slovenia in the round of 16, Alexander Payer from Austria in the quarterfinals, and Yannik Argenend from Germany in the semifinals.
This achievement propelled Gaudet to the 10th position in the overall World Cup standings with a total of 193 points. Having previously won a bronze medal in the parallel giant slalom event at the 2023 world championships and represented Canada at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, Gaudet is now gearing up for the men’s parallel giant slalom event at the upcoming Milan Cortina Games on February 8 in Livigno, Italy.
In the women’s event, Aurelie Moisan from Baie d’Urfe, Quebec, emerged as the top Canadian with a commendable sixth-place finish. The competition saw Germany’s Ramona Theresia Hofmeister capturing the gold medal, followed by Poland’s Aleksandra Krol-Walas with silver and Japan’s Tsubaki Miki claiming bronze.
