Quinn, a key 29-year-old midfielder from Toronto who has been absent from Canadian national team action since the Paris Olympics, is set to make a comeback following an injury spell. The return of Quinn comes as a boost for Casey Stoney, who is gearing up for her first matches as head coach on home soil. The Canadian team, ranked seventh globally, will face off against Argentina, ranked 33rd, in two international friendlies on April 4 at B.C. Place Stadium in Vancouver and on April 8 at Starlight Stadium in Langford.
Expressing her enthusiasm, Stoney, a former England captain, stated, “We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to play in front of our fans in British Columbia. This squad combines seasoned players with emerging talent, and these upcoming matches will be pivotal for our continuous growth and development.”
Quinn, now playing for the Vancouver Rise in the newly formed Super League, boasts an impressive record of 104 appearances for Canada and featured in all matches during the Paris Olympics in 2024 despite setbacks from a knee injury and concussion. Additionally, Leicester forward Deanne Rose is also making a return from injury.
However, Stoney will have to manage without key players Kadeisha Buchanan and Sydney Collins in defense, Simi Awujo in midfield, and Jordyn Huitema and Cloe Lacasse in the forward line due to injuries.
Canada has a perfect record of 6 wins in 6 encounters against Argentina, having outscored them 14-1. The last meeting between the two teams ended in a 2-0 victory for Canada in October 2022 in Cadiz, Spain.
The Canadian women’s team is fresh off a successful campaign at the Pinatar Cup in Spain, where they triumphed over Mexico and Taiwan while drawing against China. Notable veterans part of the roster for the upcoming Argentina series include captain Jessie Fleming, defenders Vanessa Gilles, Ashley Lawrence, and Shelina Zadorsky, midfielder Julia Grosso, and forwards Adriana Leon, Nichelle Prince, Deanne Rose, and Janine Sonis.
The squad for the Argentina fixtures comprises 21 players from the recent Pinatar Cup squad. Key names in the roster include goalkeepers Sabrina D’Angelo, Lysianne Proulx, and Kailen Sheridan, defenders Gabrielle Carle, Jayde Riviere, Jade Rose, Bianca St-Georges, and Shelina Zadorsky, midfielders Marie-Yasmine Alidou, Emma Regan, and Carly Wickenheiser, and forwards Clarissa Larisey, Olivia Smith, and Evelyne Viens.
