The upcoming election in the Terrebonne riding will see a rematch between Nathalie Sinclair-Desgagné of the Bloc Québécois and Liberal candidate Tatiana Auguste. The Supreme Court recently overturned the previous election results, prompting Bloc Leader Yves-François Blanchet to praise Sinclair-Desgagné’s determination.

Auguste was officially nominated by the Liberals for the Montreal-area riding after being declared the winner by a single vote in the last federal election. However, Sinclair-Desgagné contested the results successfully in the Supreme Court on Feb. 13, following a complaint that a supporter’s special mail-in ballot was not counted.

With the Liberal Party three seats away from a majority government, the Terrebonne riding is among the three ridings set for upcoming byelections. Prime Minister Mark Carney is yet to announce the dates for the byelections in Terrebonne and the two vacant Toronto ridings.
