Jermain McKenzie fondly recalls Trevor Dubois for his contagious laughter and a delightful sense of humor that could have you in stitches. Their last conversation, on Christmas, involved McKenzie wishing Dubois a speedy recovery from a brain tumor. However, shortly after, Dubois passed away under circumstances that remain uncertain, though his impactful life is what his loved ones wish to emphasize.

Describing Dubois as a dedicated advocate for various marginalized groups, McKenzie highlighted his unwavering commitment to helping those in need, be it Indigenous Peoples, the 2SLGBTQ+ community, students, or individuals with disabilities. The overwhelming support on social media following his passing attests to the profound impact he had on countless lives.

Noteworthy anecdotes shared by McKenzie include Dubois selflessly offering driving lessons in his new car, prioritizing his friend’s learning experience over potential damage to the vehicle. Despite challenging weather conditions, Dubois remained composed, focusing on teaching and empowering others, a reflection of his kind and nurturing nature.

Carmen Charles, a close friend of Dubois for over 25 years, echoed similar sentiments, praising his welcoming demeanor and boundless compassion. She recounted how Dubois graciously accommodated her and her family during a Christmas trip to Ottawa when they had nowhere to stay, underscoring his consistent acts of kindness and generosity.

Addressing recent police reports alleging the presence of a fake gun and drug-related items in Dubois’s room, Charles vehemently refuted these claims, emphasizing Dubois’s aversion to anything harmful or dangerous. The family maintains that the alleged imitation firearm was, in fact, a cigarette case and lighter.

Another friend, Cody Demerais, lauded Dubois for his unwavering support during crucial moments, such as assisting with the establishment of a business and offering a safe haven for those in need, even when faced with betrayal. Demerais highlighted Dubois’s nonjudgmental nature and his hope for individuals to better themselves, showcasing his exceptional character.

Ryan Dubois, Trevor’s brother, fondly remembered him as an exceptional sibling and a natural caretaker who extended his kindness to strangers without hesitation. Describing Trevor as inherently compassionate and devoid of malice, Ryan emphasized the profound impact his brother had on countless individuals, evident in the outpouring of grief and tributes online.

Growing up as Metis and later becoming a member of the Muskoday First Nation, Trevor Dubois was described by his family as a vibrant and compassionate individual with a penchant for helping others, especially First Nations youth grappling with mental health challenges in northern Saskatchewan. The family continues to seek clarity from authorities regarding the circumstances surrounding Dubois’s tragic demise following an altercation with hospital security officers.
