As his collegiate football tenure nears its end, John Stoll is making a concerted effort to cherish each moment. Reflecting on his time as a fifth-year defensive back for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, Stoll emphasized the importance of appreciating the small aspects of the game, such as practices and meetings.

The Huskies, led by Stoll and his teammates, are gearing up to face the Montreal Carabins in the upcoming Vanier Cup at Mosaic Stadium in Regina. This will mark the team’s third appearance in the championship game within the last five years.

Stoll, who was a rookie during the Huskies’ previous Vanier Cup appearances in 2021 and 2022, acknowledged his growth and evolution as a player. He now values the dedication and effort required to reach the pinnacle of Canadian university football.

For defensive lineman Charlie Parks, a Regina native, the Vanier Cup holds special significance as a homecoming game. Parks, inspired by family stories of past Huskies glory, is determined to contribute to his team’s success and create his own championship legacy.

The Huskies, including transfer player Anesu Latmore, boast a seasoned squad unafraid of the pressure of big games. Their collective focus and commitment to executing on the field have been key factors in their journey to the Vanier Cup.

Head coach Scott Flory, a former Huskies player and CFL standout, draws parallels between the current team and the 1998 championship-winning squad. With a mix of veteran leadership and youthful athleticism, the Huskies are poised to make a statement in the upcoming title game.

Quarterback Jake Farrell, stepping into a pivotal role in the absence of Anton Amundrud, embodies the team’s resilient spirit and determination. As the Huskies prepare to face Montreal, they remain steadfast in their commitment to playing their style of football and staying true to their identity.

A victory for the Huskies in the Vanier Cup would further solidify Saskatchewan’s dominance in Canadian football, following recent championship successes by other provincial teams. With a rich history of Vanier Cup appearances, the Huskies are determined to add to their legacy and bring home another national title.
