Saskatoon’s University Bridge partly reopened after encampment fire damaged sewage pipes

The University Bridge has partially reopened. One lane has opened up in each direction.

An encampment fire under the bridge late Sunday night damaged a sewer main, leading to the closure. A temporary bypass line is in place until the sewer line is repaired.

A structural inspection Wednesday morning allowed the bridge to open up.

The city says until the sewer line that was melted by the fire is repaired, traffic restrictions will remain in place. Sewage also spilled into the river, which crews have been working to clean up.

The city says they do not have a timeline for the repair at this point, but contractors are assessing it.

The south walkway of the bridge and the Meewasin Trail on the west side of the bridge are open.

The Meewasin Trail underneath the east side of the bridge and the walkway under the far west end of the bridge remain closed.
