Serena Williams has dispelled rumors of a potential return to tennis, emphasizing on social media that she has no plans to come back, following reports that she had registered with the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), the sport’s anti-doping body. This registration is a necessary initial step for players considering a comeback.

The 44-year-old tennis icon, who last competed at the 2022 U.S. Open, refrained from using the term “retiring” when she stepped away from the sport, instead describing her departure as an “evolution” away from tennis. Despite speculation about her future in the sport, Williams clarified her stance with a social media post stating, “Omg yall I’m NOT coming back. This wildfire is crazy.”

While the exact timing and circumstances of any potential return remain uncertain, her agent has not responded to media inquiries. The U.S. Tennis Association expressed its support, acknowledging Williams’ paperwork submission to the ITIA for reentry into the International Registered Testing Pool. They highlighted her significant influence and legacy in the sport, welcoming the prospect of her return to professional competition.

If Serena Williams chooses to resume competing, it would undoubtedly reignite interest and captivate fans worldwide. The decision to rejoin the testing pool overseen by the ITIA, responsible for anti-doping and integrity measures, was confirmed by ITIA spokesperson Adrian Bassett. Athletes returning to testing protocols must provide details about their whereabouts and be available for testing for six months before resuming competition.

Williams’ elder sister, Venus, made a successful return to competitive tennis at age 45 after a hiatus of nearly 1 1/2 years, without formally announcing retirement. Venus, a seven-time Grand Slam singles champion, expressed her desire for Serena to join her back on the tour, reminiscing about their shared achievements in doubles competition.
