The College of Physicians and Surgeons of B.C. is taking action against two sisters for their alleged involvement in a cosmetic-filler procedure that led to a client’s physical disfigurement. Jeeti Virk, a former Miss Universe Canada contestant, and her sister Rajan Virk are accused of operating multiple businesses in B.C.’s Lower Mainland via Instagram, promoting body-contouring services to enhance lip and buttock size using dermal fillers, as stated in a court petition.

The court documents reveal that the Virk sisters do not hold licenses to perform botox and dermal filler procedures. They have not yet responded to the legal petition. Additionally, the sisters are facing a lawsuit from a former client who shared her experience within the college’s petition, claiming she suffered deformities from the services provided by the Virks and required hospital treatment.

The lawsuit accuses the Virks of negligence and misrepresentation, alleging that they falsely claimed to be trained in injecting dermal fillers into the client’s buttocks. Despite the legal action, the sisters did not address the lawsuit, resulting in a default judgment requiring them to compensate the client for damages, the amount of which was not specified.

An incident detailed in the petition describes the client engaging with Rajan and Jeeti Virk on Instagram to inquire about body-contouring services. The client agreed to pay $14,500 for 2,000 milliliters of dermal filler to be injected into her buttocks for volume enhancement. Prior to the procedure, Rajan advised the client to feign a toothache to obtain antibiotics for post-procedure use. During the injections, Rajan insisted on an additional 200 milliliters of filler, costing the client an extra $1,300. The product used, Avanescence, is not approved for use by Health Canada.

Following the procedure, the client experienced complications, including leaking a blood-tinged gelatinous fluid from the injection site, accompanied by illness and difficulty standing. The petition alleges that Rajan attempted to address the issue by sending superglue through UberEats to seal the puncture hole. Despite multiple attempts to reach the Virk sisters for comment, they remained unavailable.

Subsequently, the client sought medical attention at St. Paul’s Hospital due to persistent issues, including additional leaking puncture holes and swelling, requiring multiple visits. Medical tests confirmed leakage of filler and fat necrosis, necessitating a dissolver administered by Jeeti Virk. Although a partial refund was offered, the client declined and ceased contact with the Virks on social media.

The petition emphasizes the risks associated with cosmetic procedures and highlights the importance of qualified professionals administering botox and dermal fillers. Licensed providers, such as physicians and registered nurses, are recommended for such procedures to mitigate potential complications and ensure patient safety.

Court documents revealed that the Virk sisters utilized Instagram accounts under various names to promote their services, including offering training in cosmetic injection techniques. Licensed providers stress the significance of thorough consultations, medical history reviews, discussion of potential risks, and obtaining consent from clients to ensure safe practices in cosmetic procedures.
