Sophia Howell Lands Podium Finish at World Triathlon Cup

Canada’s Sophia Howell achieved her first podium finish at the World Triathlon Cup on Sunday, securing third place in the sprint-distance event. Hailing from Airdrie, Alta., Howell completed the 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike ride, and five-kilometer run in one hour, one minute, and 12 seconds in San Pedro de la Paz, Chile. Expressing her excitement, the 23-year-old Howell stated, “I’m so thrilled. I didn’t anticipate this today, so I’m absolutely ecstatic.” Howell finished just three seconds behind Jeanne Lehair of Luxembourg and nine seconds behind the champion, Miriam Casillas Garcia of Spain. Meanwhile, Emy Legault of L’Ile Perrot, Que., secured the 12th position in the race. In the men’s event, Charlottetown’s Martin Sobey emerged as the top Canadian, finishing in 14th place.
