“Stephen Gogolev Wins First Grand Prix Medal in Men’s Figure Skating”

Stephen Gogolev clinched his first Grand Prix medal, while Roman Sadovsky showcased his competitive spirit for Canada’s sole men’s figure skating spot at the 2026 Winter Olympics. Gogolev secured third place at the 2025 Finlandia Trophy in Helsinki, continuing his impressive season. Additionally, ice dancers Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier brought home a silver medal and secured a spot in December’s Grand Prix Final.

Gogolev, a 20-year-old from Toronto, performed well in the men’s free skate, finishing third with a score of 164.26. Reflecting on his performance, Gogolev expressed satisfaction, acknowledging areas for improvement but emphasizing his determination throughout the competition.

Meanwhile, Sadovsky rallied in the free skate after a sixth-place start, finishing fourth overall with 243.29 total points. Yuma Kagiyama of Japan dominated the free skate, ultimately clinching first place with 270.45 points.

In the ice dance event, Gilles and Poirier maintained their second-place position from the rhythm dance. Their performance to “Vincent” by Govardo earned them a total score of 202.11 points.

Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron of France claimed victory in both dances, securing a total of 204.18 points. Fournier Beaudry, who previously represented Canada, now competes for France alongside Cizeron.

The Finlandia Trophy marked the conclusion of the Grand Prix series, serving as the final opportunity to qualify for the Grand Prix Final in Nagoya, Japan. Viewers can catch live coverage of the event on CBCSports.ca and CBC Gem.

In other Canadian results, Madeline Schizas finished fifth in the women’s competition, while Lia Pereira and Trennt Michaud placed fifth in pairs at the ISU Grand Prix Finlandia Trophy in Helsinki.
