Suspect arrested after unprovoked stranger attacks in Surrey, B.C.

Police in Surrey, B.C., say they have arrested a suspect believed to be involved in two unprovoked stranger assaults last week.

Shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 9, Surrey police officers responded to a report of an assault at a business in the 6400 block of 120 Street.

Police allege the suspect first physically assaulted a staff member, then attacked a bystander with a weapon—believed to be a knife—when they tried to intervene.

In an update Sunday, the Surrey Police Service said detectives, with assistance from the Delta Police Department and the Lower Mainland Integrated Response Team, located and arrested the suspect in Delta, B.C.

The suspect remains in custody and has been charged with one count of aggravated assault and one count of assault with a weapon.

Police have not released the suspect’s name and they say the investigation is ongoing.
