The family of Ahmed al-Ahmed, a Syrian father of two who bravely confronted one of the assailants during the tragic shooting at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, has praised him as a hero. Following the deadly incident at a Hanukkah celebration that claimed the lives of at least 15 individuals and left 38 injured, donations have been flooding in for the 43-year-old owner of a fruit shop.
Ahmed al-Ahmed’s courageous actions in response to the country’s worst mass shooting in nearly three decades have garnered widespread admiration. The assailants, identified by police as a 50-year-old father and his 24-year-old son, opened fire at the Hanukkah event. Video footage confirmed by CBC News shows al-Ahmed swiftly confronting one of the gunmen, disarming him, and ultimately subduing the attacker before the authorities intervened.
Despite sustaining injuries to his hand and arm from gunfire, Ahmed al-Ahmed is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese commended his bravery, emphasizing that al-Ahmed’s selfless intervention saved lives during the harrowing ordeal.
Al-Ahmed’s parents shared that he is an Australian citizen who operates a fruit and vegetable business. Since moving to Australia in 2006, Ahmed al-Ahmed had not seen his parents, who recently arrived in Sydney from Syria.
