“Teen Faces Attempted Murder Charges for Halifax Stabbing”

A 19-year-old woman appeared in court on Monday facing charges of attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a six-year-old boy in downtown Halifax. The incident took place on Barrington Street near Scotia Square Mall on Sunday afternoon, where the boy was found with stab wounds and rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Halifax Regional Police Const. Martin Cromwell described the event as a tragic incident, confirming that the victim was attacked with a knife. Authorities stated that there is no known connection between the victim and the accused, identified as Elliott Chorny, who was swiftly apprehended at the scene and also charged with possession of a dangerous weapon.

During the court proceedings, Chorny consented to remain in custody until her next court appearance on March 13. Additionally, she faces an assault charge from a previous incident in January. Notably, a spokesperson for Nova Scotia Health disclosed Chorny’s involvement in a separate altercation at QEII hospital last month.

The accused’s mother, Andrea Hancock, took to social media to describe her daughter as severely unwell and expressed her efforts to seek help for Chorny due to safety concerns. Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston also expressed condolences for the boy and his family following the distressing attack.

Patricio Garcia, president of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 508, voiced concerns about the stabbing incident at Scotia Square bus terminal and emphasized the need for enhanced security measures at public transit locations to prevent such occurrences. Police are urging witnesses with any relevant video footage to come forward to aid in the ongoing investigation.
