Toyota is recalling 70,480 vehicles in Canada due to a problem with the instrument panel display, which fails to show crucial information, potentially increasing the risk of accidents or injuries, as per Transport Canada’s updated recall notice. The recall, initially announced on Sept. 11, encompasses various models such as Venza, Highlander, Tacoma, GR Corolla, and certain Lexus models, affecting only vehicles equipped with a 12.3-inch display.
The issue arises from a malfunction in the instrument panel software during vehicle startup, causing the instrument panel to not display important indicators like vehicle speed, brake system status, and tire pressure warning lights. Transport Canada stated that Toyota will inform owners via mail to bring their vehicles to a dealership for a software update of the combination meter. For some vehicles, dealers will also inspect and replace the combination meter if needed.
According to a statement on Toyota Canada’s website, affected vehicle owners will receive notifications by mid-November.
