A legal representative for the truck driver responsible for the tragic Humboldt Broncos bus collision revealed that the driver is closer to being sent back to India. Attorney Michael Greene disclosed that the Immigration and Refugee Board turned down a plea for Jaskirat Singh Sidhu to remain in Canada as a refugee. This refusal now mandates the Canada Border Services Agency to promptly deport Sidhu. While the exact timeline remains uncertain, Greene intends to seek a postponement.

Simultaneously, the board is still evaluating a prior petition to reinstate Sidhu’s permanent resident status. This application contends that Sidhu should be permitted to remain in the country on compassionate grounds due to his child’s complex medical needs.

The fatal incident occurred when Sidhu failed to stop at a sign and collided with a bus transporting the junior hockey team near Tisdale, Sask., in April 2018, resulting in the loss of sixteen lives and injuring thirteen others.
