Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is scheduled to visit Ukraine on Monday for a summit on peace and security involving 13 foreign leaders. Trudeau, who will also lead a virtual G7 meeting, is set to discuss Canada’s current relations with the United States with Zelenskyy.
The meeting between Trudeau and Zelenskyy comes amidst shifting U.S. support for Ukraine and recent talks between Russian and U.S. officials in Saudi Arabia aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict without involving Kyiv. Trudeau emphasized the importance of Ukraine’s involvement in any negotiations to end the hostilities triggered by Russia’s invasion three years ago.
Following a positive discussion between Trudeau and U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the Ukraine war, it was highlighted that both leaders are eager to see an end to Russia’s invasion, which commenced on February 24, 2022. The statement underscored the belief that the war should not have occurred and would have been prevented under different leadership.
Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk expressed Ukraine’s readiness to collaborate with the Trump administration and emphasized the need for increased military support for Ukraine through a joint resolution between Canada and the U.S. to counter Russian aggression. Yatsenyuk stressed the importance of proactive measures to support Ukraine in the ongoing conflict.
